Prevent is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is one of the four elements of CONTEST, the government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

As an early years practitioner, you are in one of the best positions to spot the warning signs of radicalisation, and then use intervention to support and remediate the behaviour.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To know government Prevent legislation and its impact upon those working in the early year sector
  2. To be able to look at the Prevent duty in relation to early years education in detail, including understanding Prevent terminology and what it means
  3. To understand how to carry out appropriate risk assessment, intervention, and response as part of the Prevent duty
  4. To be able to understand the importance of promoting British values in the Prevent strategy, and how to apply these in the classroom

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
