Schemas are described as patterns of repeated behaviour which allow children to explore and express developing ideas and thoughts through their play and exploration.

This course provides an introduction to schema theory and explores the different types of schemas. It will support the practitioner’s understanding of children’s play and help them to identify types of schemas and look at how to plan for these to support children’s individual needs.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To discuss ‘schema’ theory
  2. To explore examples of different types of schemas
  3. To practically experience different types schema play
  4. To consider how it impacts learning and development
  5. To understand the role of practitioners to support and plan for schemas

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
