There are several main groups of travellers in the United Kingdom and they have, and still do, face a lot of racism and abuse.

This course will examine the different types of travelling communities in the UK and look at the difficulties they face. It will also cover the reasons why so many young children in these communities do not regularly attend a fixed school. It is important that Early Years practitioners provide an inclusive environment where children feel welcome, respected, and valued.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To know who travellers are
  2. To understand the Race Relations Act
  3. To know why travellers are disadvantaged
  4. To know what needs to happen to break down barriers
  5. To be aware of Traveller Education Support Services
  6. To know why some Traveller parents are reluctant to send their children to school
  7. To know what makes an inclusive school

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.

Should you wish to discuss your needs before accessing the course, please call 0800 774 7874.

If you are an organisation and you have 5 or more learners who require the above training please consider our face to face options.
