Synthetic phonics has been the required method of teaching early reading for many years, yet many teachers still wonder how best to implement this and how they can support the application of phonics in continuous provision and outside. There are, of course, many other strategies for reading that are used alongside this approach to ensure that children are able to understand, and talk about, stories they have read.
This practical course will help to equip you with the skills and confidence to teach synthetic phonics, within a wider literacy curriculum, in a range of contexts – such as discrete lessons, in continuous provision and outdoors. It will provide you with a range of strategies to ensure that children’s developing phonic knowledge is being applied through fun, hands-on activities, inside and out.
