Children arrive at the early years setting with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Sometimes they are happy, and they engage well with the setting. Sometimes they find engagement difficult. Our job is to identify what might be the barriers to children’s happiness and therefore their learning. When we know the problem, we can start to understand and help.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To know the importance of communicating and working with parents
  2. To know how to use Maslow’s hierarchy of needs effectively
  3. To look at the assessment of wellbeing and involvement
  4. To know how to support the children in the setting and make observations
  5. To know when to involve other professionals

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
